csvtoexcel.site/ is a free online tool that converts CSV files to Excel (.xlsx) format right in your web browser. No software to install, no account to create, no files uploaded to a server. You drop in a CSV, check a quick preview, and download a clean Excel workbook — usually in under ten seconds.
Alongside the tool, we publish in-depth, practical guides about working with CSV and Excel files: fixing delimiter and encoding problems, converting on Mac, iPhone, and Android, automating conversions with Python and PowerShell, and handling large datasets. Every guide is written to solve one specific problem completely.
Why we built it
Most free converters work the same way: you upload your file to somebody's server, wait, download the result, and hope your data is deleted afterwards. For a bank statement, a customer list, or payroll data, "hope" is not good enough. Modern browsers are powerful enough to do the whole conversion locally with JavaScript — so we built a converter that never sends your file anywhere. Privacy is not a feature here; it is the architecture.
We also got tired of converters that mangle data: semicolon-separated European files opening in a single column, UTF-8 characters turning to gibberish, leading zeros vanishing. Our tool auto-detects common delimiters and reads files as UTF-8, handling the details most converters ignore.
Our principles
- Free forever, no signup. The core converter will always be free and account-free.
- Private by design. Files never leave your device. We have no server-side copy to leak, sell, or lose.
- Fast and honest. No fake progress bars, no "premium unlock" traps on basic features, no bundled junk.
- Helpful content. Our blog exists to teach, not to pad word counts. If a guide does not solve the reader's problem, it does not ship.
How the site is funded
csvtoexcel.site/ is currently a free service run by a small independent team. We may introduce unobtrusive advertising or optional premium features in the future to cover hosting costs, but the core CSV-to-Excel conversion will remain free.
